If staff and the supervisor/division head agree to a compressed weekly work agreement, they complete a form of flexible work agreements. The agreements are temporary, with a date of verification and verification. Changes and/or extensions must also be recorded accordingly. The original is kept in the personal file of the employee with copies to the employee and supervisor/head of department. A compressed work week aims to create flexible conditions to help employees better integrate their work and private lives and better manage commuting, care, continuing education or community service. Successful compressed weekly work arrangements meet the needs of the individual, unit or department. The agreement focuses on the performance of the work and the compliance with the requirements of the company.
A written agreement is needed to clarify the expectations of both parties. Supervisory authorities and department heads have the power to approve compressed workweek agreements. The worker must work on the agreed schedules and obtain the agreement of the supervisor/head of department before overtime work. Weekly compressed work agreements are initiated on an experimental basis and can be recruited at any time at the request of the employee or the supervisor/head of department. The units and the department reserve the right to immediately suspend the agreement in case of unforeseen circumstances regarding the employee`s performance or the needs of the company. The employee initiates a request for a compressed work week by forwarding a proposal to his supervisor/department manager. Staff and the senior/division head complete the “Flexible Work Agreement” form. Changes in the order of work cannot be changed without prior discussion and amendment to the agreement. In the case of the staff represented, the senior/division head requests the verification and approval of the proposed agreement from a labour relations specialist to ensure compliance with the UC/Union collective agreements and/or the Fair Labor Standards Act.
