On November 4, 1995, Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin was assassinated by a Jewish extremist who wanted to undermine Rabin`s peace efforts with the Palestinians.  Because of the close ties that were established with Rabin during the treaty negotiations, Hussein was invited to deliver a speech in Jerusalem at Rabin`s funeral.  This was the first time since the 1967 war in Jerusalem.  Hussein drew parallels between Rabin`s assassination and his grandfather`s assassination in 1951: “We are not ashamed, we are not afraid, and we are far from determined to continue the legacy for which my friend fell, as my grandfather did in this city when I was with him and only a boy.”  Discussions began in 1994. . .
